I probably haven't read every listing, but to me the amazing
thing is how Big Oil has tried to use advertising to convince people they are going "green" and using new technology like "clean coal" (can you say "clean fart")
to help solve global warming. What a joke. I don't think
space exploration is our next big priority.

"President-elect Barack Obama will probably tear down long-standing barriers between the U.S.’s civilian and military space programs to speed up a mission to the moon amid the prospect of a new space race with China.

"Obama’s transition team is considering a collaboration between the Defense Department and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration because military rockets may be cheaper and ready sooner than the space agency’s planned launch vehicle, which isn’t slated to fly until 2015, according to people who’ve discussed the idea with the Obama team."

History has yet to prove any combined effort between NASA and DoD can work effectively. For example, collaboration between NASA, DoD, and NOAA has not worked out so well in the example of the next-generation of weather satellites, known as National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). DoD has dominated the effort for a decade causing unnecessary risk-taking and enormous cost escalation. (http://www.space.com/spacenews/archive06/Npoess_072406.html)

Well, from my myopic perspective, not much has happened science-wise this year --
